It was 20 years ago today…

Throwback Thursday! 20 years ago this week in March 2001, I was creating this… It was a Corporate Brochure created for the multi-national I worked for at that time. I was one of the in-house graphic designers. The company was/is in the financial services sector across Europe. This particular corporate brochure was all about ‘rewarding relationships’ in terms of relationship marketing. To facilitate this we concepted the idea of using pieces of fine art and modern art to highlight these points throughout the brochure; so that it look more like an art catalogue and less like a stuffy financial services corporate brochure. The budget for this job was large. We licensed famous pieces of art from galleries across the world and the company even bought an original of one of the pieces we used.

The brochure itself was, from a design and print point of view, technically complex. There were a number of special finishes used, including spot UV in various places, several types of embossing and die-cuts. Even the paint blobs on the front were mixed by us in the studio from real paints, then scanned, and tinted to match the corporate colours exactly. They were then used to give texture for embossing. And once the English version was done, we had to create new versions, in French, German, Spanish, Swedish and Italian.

Of course it looks dated by today’s standards, but at the time it was unlike anything else around - and it’s still a piece I feel very proud of!
