 Designing a Superyacht E-Book

The Yotspot team approached me because they wanted to offer something exclusive, valuable, and informative to their Platinum “new-to-yachting” recruits.

An engaging, easy to refer to downloadable e-Handbook called “Your Superyacht Career Starts Here,” written by Yotspot copywriter Vicks Ward.

Covering everything a newbie needs to know; from the definition of a superyacht and overview of the superyacht circuit to jobs onboard, salary expectations and what to pack!

My brief was to break the e-book into bite-size chunks; create illustrations, icons, graphics and use photography to make it referable, visually stimulating and professional, with a distinguishable thread of Yotspot branding throughout.

The very nature of this one meant the photographs were stunning.

Superyachts anchored off beautiful shorelines, azure waters, golden sunsets and blue cloudless skies. And because of the copy, there were lots of opportunities to create new graphics, diagrams and icons to really bring it to life.

A superyacht cross-section to demonstrate the different internal departments.

Illustrations to show the difference between superyachts and megayachts, maps to show the superyacht circuit, hierarchy of the different roles onboard, what’s where onboard; from life-rafts to helideck and anchor to stern and quick reference salary guidelines for every job on every boat size.

I also created a whole bunch of icons to split down the various sections; training, networking, yachting pubs, social media, crew houses, what to pack as well as graphics for qualifications and flag states.

Every chapter finished in a Crew Profile. Each one an interview with people from different walks of yachting life. Their Q & A format gave me scope to create a nice magazine style interview, a smart way to finish off each section.

With pretty much free reign, this was a lovely job.

They now sell the e-handbook as part of their Platinum membership and were so pleased with the final handbook they discussed selling it on Amazon.

If you’re looking for creative pizzazz for an e-book, brochure or guide, give me a call.
